Dr. Alovett Joel King is a co-founder and managing partner of Magowi Consultant Group. He is responsible for Planning & Strategy and advises the firm on a broad range of strategic and business management topics. Dr. King is a student of storytelling and evidence-based research and an avid thinker. He often spends time reflecting on how to improve lives through collective efforts, particularly strengthening marginalized and those in underserved communities through wealth creation activities. He is a policy wonk and has conducted extensive research in the areas of organization process, strategic management, leadership, change, culture, creativity, and innovation. As a management practitioner-scholar, Dr. King is passionate about helping individuals and organizations leverage their dynamic capabilities to drive productivity and effectiveness.
As a professional, he has worked with a number of globally recognized institutions including Prudential Insurance of America, L’Oreal Cosmetics, First USA Bank, Bank One Corporation, Johnsons & Johnson, Merck & Co., J. P. Morgan Chase, AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies (ACFC), and was an adjunct professor at the Bucks County Community College in Newtown, Pennsylvania.
Dr. King is a lifelong learner. He has studied at a number of globally recognized institutions either directly or through open access and/or distance learning. These are: Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania (Financial Accounting, Public Finance, Marketing, Customer Analytics, Operation Analytics, and People Analytics), the University of Virginia, Darden School of Business (Business Strategy); Cambridge University ( Executive Coaching), Stanford University Design Institute (Innovation and Sustainability), University of Geneva (International Organization Management), Northwestern University (Law and Entrepreneurship), the University of Chicago (Neurobiology), the University of London (Research Methods), and University of Chicago, Booth (Sales Strategy). He also audited a course in logic at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
Dr. King has served on leadership and/or board positions in a number of institutions including the Data Management Association International (DAMA-I); Meals on Wheels of America; the United Way; the Association of Middle Eastern and North African Heritage (AMENAH) of Johnson & Johnson; and the African-America Leadership Council (AALC) at Johnson & Johnson. He is an affiliate of Academy of Management (AOM), African Academy of Management (AAM), Strategic Management Society (SMS), Institute of Coaching Professional Association (ICPA) at the Harvard Medical School, and the Harvard Business Review (HBR). He is a frequent paper reviewer for the AOM and was honored to serve as paper chair at AOM 2013 Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida. Currently, he leads policy efforts for Cummings for Liberia (CfL) a support group focused on electing Alexander B. Cummings as the next president of Liberia.
Dr. King is an alumnus of the University of Liberia and the Lands & Mines Energy Survey Engineering School in Bomi Hills, Liberia. He received his MBA from St. Peters University in Jersey City, New Jersey, and a Doctor of Management degree from the University of Maryland school system.
He lives in New Jersey with his wife Margaret and three children.
